What You Should Know About DSL, Cable and Satellite Internet

There are many different types of Internet providers you could use these days. Some of them provide access to the World Wide Web through cables while others provide wireless access from various locations in the city. The three most popular forms of Internet access in homes and offices are DSL, cable and satellite Internet.

DSL is an Internet connection that is considered one of the fasted connections compared to a typical dial-up connection. DSL stands for digital subscriber line because it provides you access to the World Wide Web through your phone line. This means you have to have a phone line in your home or office to use a DSL connection. Not only do you have to have a phone line for the connection to work, but you have to have a certain type of phone line. The DSL connection requires your phone to have special copper wiring for the data to be transmitted. If your phone does not come equipped with that copper wiring, you will not be able to install a DSL connection in your house or office. This is a problem for people living or working in older buildings in small or old parts of town. It is not an easy process to change the wiring in your phone system, so if the house or office does not have the proper wiring then DSL will not be an Internet option in that location.

Cable is another high-speed Internet connection that is considered by many to be better and faster than a typical dial-up connection. Unlike DSL, cable can be provided in many areas of town regardless of if the home or office is in an older building without copper wiring in the phone lines. A cable connection does not go through your house’s phone line. A cable connection actually uses your cable television connection to transfer Internet data for you. If you do not have cable television, you will probably have to sign up for it to get a cable Internet connection. Many people choose this option because they already have a cable television provider and it’s easy to the sign up to receive Internet also through the same provider. Many people do not like this option because it requires them to use the same cable television provider. If you are unhappy with your television provider then you are not going to want to also receive your Internet through that company. It often depends of your relationship with the company.

The third most popular option is satellite Internet. This form of Internet access is popular in all types of areas of town because it doesn’t require special copper wiring in your house or using the same cable television provider. When you have a satellite broadband, you can connect to the Internet from small towns and in isolated suburbs all over the country. You will have a high-speed connection that is significantly faster than the typical dial-up connection when you connect through satellite Internet broadband in your house or office.
